Research on editorial poses.

During the time after my test shoot I felt I needed to do some research on editorial images. This I felt would help me when it came to my next shoot as one of the elements that wasn't as successful as I would have hoped was the posing of the model.  I want the image to look professional and polished, this I think will be achieved with the poses and presentation of the model.

With this image the main element I like is the placement of the hand. I particularly like the way the fingers are making a line that draws the attention to the jaw. The bright colours are a good contrast between the the colour of the models hair, the skin and the background. The colours I feel are all bright yet all fit well with each other, however I am undecided if I like the red with the pink. I feel the natural colour of the eye shadow is not distracting and works well with the bright lip which is something I will experiment with in my other shoots. I feel this image is very strong. The model in this image feels strong by the placement of her hand and her pose. She is not looking directly into the camera in an intimidating way, in fact she is not looking at the camera at all, yet she still gives the impression of being strong.

I really love these images by Marco Rothenburger for an article by Superior magazine. I love the way the light is hitting the skin and this lighting technique would look really good on my images for my images on skin care and sun damage. I think the makeup from this shoot is really beautiful, the skin looks perfect and glowing and I love the way the lighting is giving the skin an almost plastic look. The pose in the bottom left image particularly stands out to me. I like the way the lips are slightly parted with the shadow casting over them. The styling of the hair gives these images a strong and empowered feeling. especially with the image in the bottom right. This article has an overall polished feel and is something that I really hope to achieve. I also like the layout of the title of the article. The font is in black with I feel fits well with the colour scheme of the article as it matches the colour of the models hair and underwear.

Here is another set of images that stood out to me. As you can see again the model is not wearing anything on her top half, this seems to be a theme in beauty editorials. I think this is to not distract the viewer from the styling and overall theme of the image.
The poses in this image stand out to me because they give me a feeling of being secretive. They give me this feeling in the way the model has her finger over her lip and is looking away from the camera. This gives me connotations that the information in the article could be a 'secret' that they are giving away to the reader. Once again the model is using her hands instead of simply being placed in the picture and sitting there to direct the viewer to the jaw line and also the product that they are potentially selling.
I like the background in this image too. I feel the image on the left looks especially effective by having the light coming off of the model, this gives the feeling that she is almost glowing. This could then be inferred that the gems she is wearing are making her glow, therefore once again selling the product to the reader.

This image is very striking to me and has given me ideas on the background for my perfect skin images. I especially like the way the hair has blended into the background, making sure the focus of the image is on the skin and the pose of the model. Once again an element that stands out to me in this image is the contrast between the red of the lips and the nails against the skin. This has been an overall theme with most of the images I have looked at and researched.
The pose of the model is quite soft. I get this impression with the way she has tilted her head back slightly and placed her hand over her chest. The placement of the hand is extremely gentle and this I think fits well with the overall image as the skin itself looks soft and it feels as though if you were to touch it you would have to be quite careful.
